The Latest

I just realized I haven't given much of a written update for quite some time, so here goes:

It feels like we've settled in to a routine. I've been back to work full time for over 2 weeks now, so it feels like we've finally reached some sort of normalcy. Carol watches Adalyn on Mondays, I'm home with her Wednesdays, and she goes to the babysitter's house Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The babysitter is Barb Wolfe. She watches 5 other older kids, the youngest of which are three. It's working out really well so far and we're very happy with her.

Adalyn is for the most part a very happy baby. She eats often (both breastmilk and formula) and sleeps for 2-3 hours at a stretch. She has slept on her own in her crib in her bedroom since the day we brought her home. She takes a pacifier and has been chewing on her hands lately.  Just the other day she officially found her thumb and sucked it for a minute or so.  She smiles quite a bit after eating, and follows voices with her eyes. I think I even caught her watching TV the other day. She recently had a cold (we all did) and has had a stuffy nose for a couple weeks now. She also passes A LOT of gas. The doctor has suggested we try eliminating lactose from her diet to see if that clears up the gas and stuffy nose. Speaking of the doctor, she had her 2 month check-up today! She weighs 10 lbs, 8 ounces and is 22.25 inches long! She had 2 shots and one oral liquid immunization which have left her feeling pretty crummy today.

We took our first road trip with her this last weekend. We drove to Madras to celebrate Adam's Uncle Gordon's promotion. We stayed the night with Uncle Mike and Aunt Tammy in Prineville and got to see lots of family. Adalyn did great! She slept the whole way over and back with just one stop each direction to eat. And she slept better in her bouncer in a new environment than she does at home in her crib!

The dogs have adjusted quite well to having a baby around. Cookie doesn't really pay much attention, but River and Mulligan seem to keep tabs on her. If she fusses, Mulligan is right there checking her out and if it goes on too long he whines and looks over his shoulder to make sure we're on our way. They're all pretty calm around her. It's like they know to be gentle.

I think that pretty much summarizes the life of the Tolmans. Things are going great for us and we're so happy to have Adalyn here with us!

A Random Update

This just may be the cutest face I've ever seen:

Should I be concerned?

In the morning, before I go to work, I try to make sure the baby is totally ready to go before I leave; diaper changed, clothes on, diaper bag packed, and well-fed. Unfortunately, I don't always get it all done before it's time to go. Ad is usually still in bed when I leave and if there's anything more that Adalyn needs before she goes to the babysitter, it's up to him. On the days that I'm running behind, I try to at least have a bottle made so all he has to do is feed her. As you can see in the pictures above, his interpretation of how it feed the baby is slightly different than mine. Should I be worried?

(Of course I'm not worried - he's the best Dad imaginable, but these pictures cracked me up!)

Another Baby Shower!

At our last P.E.O. meeting, Adalyn and I were given another baby shower! One of my fellow P.E.O. members had a baby boy 2 weeks before The Little Miss was born, so we all celebrated together. It was fun! We received so many nice gifts! Again I'm reminded of the generosity of the people around me. People are just so nice!

William Henry McBride is just 2 weeks older than Adalyn but was weighing in at 15 lbs when this photo was taken! (Adalyn is around 8.5 lbs.) He's adorable!
