We kicked off the festivities Friday evening with our annual Family Game Night with the Chamberlains, Kodas, and Tolmans. As always, the food was wonderful, and the house was filled with laughter as we exchanged white elephant gifts. We all enjoyed Grandma Bev's mind bender puzzle game, and the kids exchanged gifts. Adalyn especially loves the new Cabbage Patch Doll and personalized lunch bag from her cousins. (For some reason snacks that come out of a cute hand-sewn bag are much better than from a ziploc.) Unfortunately, I forgot my camera! I would have really liked to get a picture of Auntie Janet's "Cherpumple" dessert. It's a three layered cake, each with a pie baked into it; cherry pie in chocolate cake, pumpkin pie in spice cake, and apple pie in yellow cake. It was marvelous!
Saturday, we spent the afternoon with the Perrys. Adalyn began her celebrations with a ride of the four-wheeler with Papa. (That's the new name my Dad has chosen for himself.) She received all sorts of fun gifts, including a very fancy spring horse, new pajamas, and two cute dolls. She started to get the hang of opening gifts and enjoyed pulling everything out of her stocking. We enjoyed a wonderful meal, despite most of us feeling a little under the weather. (Please excuse Adalyn's chapped nose.)
We all slept in Christmas morning and were excited to see that Santa had visited during the night. It took a little coaxing, but soon Adalyn was in the middle of it all, checking out all the new toys and books. We enjoyed fresh cinnamon rolls from good friends, then dressed in our Christmas best and headed to Tolman's house. (Adam bought Adalyn's entire outfit, including the matching tights and shoes. I was impressed)
We exchanged gifts with Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Col and had a lot of fun. Adalyn received an awesome handmade stable, complete with hay elevator, collapsible fencing, farm truck, and dozens of plastic animals. It will stay at Grandma and Grandpa's so that all the cousins can enjoy it too! Among her other favorite gifts were Oreos and red hair extensions. I'm excited to try out my new Le Crueset French Oven (just like the Pioneer Woman!) and Adam is looking forward to using his new generator during camping trips this summer. I especially love the metal yard art flower Col made for us! I just may have to employ him to make a few others. :) He is quite talented. The Kodas and Grandma Mary joined us for a lovely prime rib dinner and cousin Wesley came later and we exchanged a few more gifts. Adalyn was such a good helper and without any prompting, carried each of Wesley's presents to him, one by one. It was adorable! I also loved finding her sitting in the dark, halfway up the stairs, with every one of the musical toys playing, lip-synching and dancing along. She's such a cool kid!
